My Birthday at Shanghai Disneyland

After the Beyond gala in Shanghai, Alyx and I said goodbye to our friends, but we were not going to be flying home just yet. The hosted trip ended the day before my birthday, and I had decided months ago that I wanted to spend August 26 (my birthday) at Shanghai Disneyland! We had a second park day planned too, before continuing on to Hong Kong.

Wednesday August 26 A Disney Birthday

At the entrance, we had our tickets and a park map, and of course there were photographs to take. We had been with a group for most of the China trip, but these two days were for Alyx and me to explore at our own pace.

We watched Mickey's Storybook Adventure and the parade. Then there were the lands and attractions we had hoped to see: Toy Story Land, Buzz Lightyear, Soarin' and Pirates. We also found Chip 'n Dale treats along the way.

We had heard the night before that our friends Kristy and Sam were coming to the park that day. We had hoped we might run into them, and we did, in Toy Story Land! After all those goodbyes at the rooftop gathering, it was fun to find familiar faces at Disney.

Zootopia was a whole new place to explore, and we went on the fun ride there.

There was a lot to fit into a Disney birthday, even with another day ahead of us. For dinner, we decided on a birthday treat - the Royal Banquet Hall in the castle.

Later we watched ILLUMINATE!, the nighttime show. And when we got back to the hotel, there was birthday cake. That was quite a way to turn another year older!

Thursday August 27 One More Day in the Park

We started with breakfast in Disney Town and went back through the main entrance for our second day. Yesterday had been the birthday celebration; today we could return to a few places and catch what we had missed.

We saw Eye of the Storm, the Captain Jack pirate stunt show. We also went back to Zootopia and Pirates, and walked through the Alice in Wonderland maze. Before leaving, we stopped at World of Disney.

It had been wonderful to return to China after 44 years and see places I remembered from 1982. Shanghai Disneyland was something different: a birthday that Alyx and I had added just for us. Next we were heading to Hong Kong, where we had one more Disney park on our itinerary.
